Hello Broadcasters and Friends,
Our WAB board is beyond excited for the Western Association of Broadcasters 84th Annual Conference!
Please join us for Canada’s Premier Broadcasters Conference at the spectacular and historic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel from June 6-7, 2018.
Mark Ritson was looking forward to coming to Banff to present to our delegates, but due to unforeseen personal reasons, he has recently informed us that he is unable to now attend in 2018. Though it is a shame we all won`t see Mark in Banff, we have a stellar lineup and are pleased to announce that Arlene Dickinson from CBC "Dragons` Den" and one of Canada's most successful communications entrepreneurs will be headlining our must-attend Conference. "The purpose of marketing is to deliver results," says Arlene, and in her insightful presentation, she will explain how we can leverage marketing in even the toughest of economic times and why marketing should be a top concern of leadership at all broadcasting companies.
We’re bringing back the popular Terry O’Reilly from CBC Radio’s “Under The Influence” to speak about the power of storytelling. In the world of broadcasting where digital is all the rage, traditional media is often a better place for storytelling. We all have a story to tell, and Terry will kick off our Conference and explain how we can use storytelling in our daily business to effectively differentiate our stations and persuade our customers.
How do we generate revenue beyond 30s and 60s? We’re assembling a panel of programming heads to give their insights on how we can best monetize programming for increased sales. Our panel of experts includes Paul Kaye (Rogers Media), Ronnie Stanton (Corus Entertainment/Alpha Media USA), Barry Vice (Golden West Broadcasting), Steve Jones (Newcap Radio) and Rob Farina (Bell Media). You will want to be in Banff in June to hear from this featured panel!
Thanks to technology we are all more alike each other than ever before. But we still rely far too much on age-based ideas of who we are trying to reach. How can we profile an audience now that nobody acts their age? Joining us is David Allison who’s vast research has led to a discovery that will change the way we work, and the way we think about the world.
This year we are honoured to have Special Guest from the CRTC, new Chairperson & CEO, Ian Scott attend. Don’t miss the 8th Annual CRTC Meet & Greet where Chairman Ian Scott, along with other key Commissioners and staff will attend. This is an invaluable opportunity to speak face-to-face with the CRTC in a more casual, informal setting.
This is a fantastic year for first-timers to attend. We’re pleased to announce a special discounted rate for NEW delegates. When a member station registers at least 1 returning delegate, a $200 discount will be given for each of those new registrations! A great value offer that the WAB wishes to offer our valued members. As always, we welcome non-members from across Canada to attend and benefit from our impactful conference sessions and attend our special social functions.
Registration is NOW Open! You can visit www.wab.ca for all the exciting details. Register early and invite your industry peers to meet you in Banff. Rooms are already going quickly for the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel so don’t wait.
The Western Association of Broadcasters is in its 84th year and our board is proud to organize Canada’s longest running Broadcasting Conference. Stay tuned for more exciting details about this must-attend event.
See you in June!
WAB President 2017-18
